Cell phone

We decided to buy an international cell phone for our upcoming trip to Russia. When we went to Samara in March our driver and translator did not pick us up. It was cold, dark and scary and no one could speak English (of course, we were in Russia). The last thing our agency told us when we left the United States was to under no circumstances take a cab. So, there we were in the Samara airport and no way to get ahold of anyone! We waited and waited and waited. Finally, there was hardly anyone left at the airport. It looked like it was about to close down. We had no choice but to take a cab and pray like crazy that we weren't killed and dumped on the side of the road. We DO NOT want to be in that situation again! I want to be able to call someone from the airport if we need to. Surely that same thing won't happen again but you never know. After researching the options out there we opted for the prepaid international cell phone.

As a side note....Chris injured his foot today. He thought it was broken. The new mule went a bit crazy with him! Anyways, he got the foot x-rayed and fortunately it isn't broken. He can hardly walk on it though. That should be a lot of fun to travel with. Well, that is if we ever get our travel dates. Supposedly, we are waiting for some signature before we can get the dates. I am hoping tomorrow we hear something.

Halo additions!

Pyzam Family Sticker Toy
Alex didn't like the original family picture I made a post or so back. She was mad that she didn't have a halo above her head. She also let Lauren know that she didn't have a halo either! When she pointed that out to Lauren she was honked off too. I hope Alex and Lauren can live up to the addition of the halos! :) Added pressure!

No travel dates still! I really am paranoid now!

Meet and Mule!

This weekend we had an out-of-town gymnastics meet. The girls rocked! Alex took 1st place all-around in her entire level. As well as 1st on beam and floor. We also learned that there is a lot of "buzz" about Alex in our gymnastic dristrict. Where did she come from and how is she winning everything?!

Taylor's vault is starting to look better. She didn't place as well this week but she met one of her personal goals and got a better vault score. Taylor struggles with vaulting because she is such a little girl. She only weighs 45 pounds at 9 years old so it is hard for her to get enough power to go over the vault. Once she can get this skill down she will place higher at meets on a regular basis. She is strong in the other events. It is just her vaulting that holds her back. This frustrates her immensely.

Our other adventure this weekend was buying a mule! Chris wants another mule so that his little boy will have a mule to ride. He is so excited about the mule he bought. I told him it wasn't the best looking mule we saw but whatever he wanted! What do I know about mules? All's I know is that horses look better :)

Here is a picture of the new mule's (Jaxon) brothers welcoming him to his new home. (Don't you love the pile of poop on my driveway? I love it when the animals do this---not! I'm sure you wish you had large animals that pooped on your driveway!)

Here is a picture of Chris with Sunday (donkey), Blaze (1st champion mule :) ) and Jaxon (newest champion mule!)

The proud father, Chris, with Jaxon!

Our Family!

Pyzam Family Sticker Toy

I am paranoid today! We still don't have firm travel dates! I'm sure
I am panicking for nothing. I know it has only been a few days but
we were told they were petitioning the Ministry of Education on
Wednesday for our visitation dates. Surely they have set them by
now! I hope nothing has gone wrong.

Yesterday I had to come home from work to get my passports out of the safe so we could send off for our Visas! They are trying to get us travel dates somewhere between October 5-15th. This really could be happening! :}

Should I go?

My brother is getting married October 11. His wedding is out of town. So, my struggle is do I fly to the wedding or not? I have asked our adoption agency if we would be travelling to Kemerovo around that time or not. They are trying to find out. So far I haven't bought a plane ticket.

We have found a babysitter for the girls when we go to Russia! I am sooo relieved. This was a stressful problem for us. :))

We received a referral today!!!!! We were matched with a 20 month old boy in KEMEROVO. You read it right Kemerovo! Who knew! We have already told our agency that we accept him and are ready to travel! We are cautiously excited!

As you know we are awaiting a referral from the Yekaterinburg region of Russia. I have joined the yahoo group for this region. (As well as every other region we are registered in!). Since being registered I have learned that this region isn't a very good one. I am sad about this. I'm trying to get someone on the yahoo list to give me the "Cliff Notes" version of what's up with this region. What I can gather so far is the judge is the problem??? I read one person's blog who had their first trip to Russia in October '07 and just brought their son home in July '08. Crazy!!! As soon as I know more info I'll let y'all know! With all this said we still don't have any information on the supposed referral after the 15th of September.

As a side note, in July our agency told us that they know of 2 little boys that are coming off of the registry in Vladivostok in October. She told me this in July. October seemed so far off then. Now, October is practically here!

"Daddy's" going to the mountains!

Chris is going to the mountains this weekend! He is so excited to camp, ride his mule and cook in his dutch oven. This is a picture I took today of Chris getting his mule ready to go.

We went out of town for a gymnastic meet this weekend! The girls rocked! Both won first place on the balance beam for their entire levels! Alex also won first place overall and Taylor won third place overall in her level.

Their beam scores were: Alex 9.85 and Taylor received a 9.4. One of the judges told me that if Alex would do that exact same routine at the state competition their was a high likelihood she could be the state champion on the balance beam. Wow!

OK, I'm done doing the motherly bragging. We were really proud of them though. Chris drove home saying his car was full of "beam queens"!

What news?!!!

Well, it is after the 15th of September. Shockingly we haven't heard anything in regards to our referral. Why am I not surprised?

Since we've been without a computer for over a week now I went to our adoption agency on Tuesday to see if they had heard anything. Not a word.

This was a weekend filled with gymnastics! The girls did great. Alex won 1st place in all around in her level, 1st on the balance beam and floor, 2nd on vault and bars. She did a great job!

Taylor also had a good meet. We were worried before the meet because she is a little bit behind because of her broken arm that required surgery. She was thrilled with her scores! She actually won 3rd place on the bars! Taylor is a workhorse.

Cowboy Chris

Chris LOVES his mule! Everyday when he comes home from work he changes clothes and goes outside to ride his mule, Blaize. He enjoys raising and training mules. According to Chris his little boy will ride ONLY a champion mule.

Do not talk to him about owning a horse. He tells me that "if it ain't half ASS it's only.....a horse". He also tells me "real men ride mules"!

I just tell him he is a dork. What happened to the city boy I married? :) He is back to his farming roots.

Boxes are more fun!

Lauren has decided to sleep in this box tonight. Does anyone want me to ship her to them for awhile? Everyone needs a Lauren to add some drama to their life!

Labor Day!

Today dove hunting season opened. Look who went hunting. As I said, Alex is our rough and tumble girl. Notice the dirt on the shirt. She cleans up quite nicely though!
